LaRocque Farms
LaRocque Farms is a wedding venue in Walworth, Wisconsin, where a renovated timber-frame barn, sailcloth tent, wildflower-filled grounds, and surrounding farmland create a secluded countryside setting for celebrations. The addition of a 544-square-foot kitchen garden brought the garden-to-table experience directly into the venue, giving chefs fresh ingredients to harvest while creating another beautiful place for guests to explore and enjoy.
The design began with the fountain. Positioned as the focal point at the center of the garden, it established the symmetry and structure for everything around it. From there, we designed outward, creating a formal potager with custom cedar raised beds, including unique triangular beds that follow the geometry surrounding the fountain. Custom nine-foot-wide arch trellises add height and frame views through the garden.
What grows here was planned around how the venue actually uses it. Two beds are dedicated entirely to herbs and edible flowers for garnishes and custom cocktails, giving guests the opportunity to pick something fresh from the garden for their own drink. Two more are devoted to strawberries, while the remaining growing space gives the chefs a rotating supply of vegetables, herbs, and flowers to harvest throughout the season.
But at a wedding venue, the garden also has to be more than productive. The symmetry of the potager, central fountain, abundant planting, and oversized arches make it a destination within the property and a natural backdrop for photographs. Guests can walk through the garden, gather around the fountain, pick a cocktail garnish, and experience some of what will eventually make its way to the table.
