The Hideaway Garden
Built at a forever home for a client who truly loves to garden, The Hideaway Garden was designed to give her plenty of room to grow, experiment, and spend time outside.
Six 4-by-12-foot raised beds create 288 square feet of growing space, each constructed from four-inch-thick rough-sawn cedar with longevity in mind. Custom trellises add vertical growing space throughout the garden, while in-ground planting around the inside perimeter of the fence extends the growing space beyond the raised beds. Together, they create a garden that feels abundant from every direction.
And this is a garden that gets used. The beds fill with vegetables, herbs and flowers throughout the season, pathways wind between overflowing plants, and you will often find the client somewhere in the middle of it all. When her family can't find her, they know where to look.
The garden was designed from the beginning as more than a place to grow. A small garden shed gives the client a space of her own for starting seeds and storing tools, but just as importantly, a place to sit and enjoy the view of the garden throughout the seasons.
With growing space inside the beds, around the perimeter, and overhead, The Hideaway Garden feels like a little world of its own. It’s a place to tend, harvest, linger, and, every once in a while, disappear into.
