The Half Moon Garden
Designed for a couple settling into their forever home and preparing to welcome their first baby, the Half Moon Garden was created with new beginnings in mind.
Inspired by the traditional potager, four 12-by-12-foot L-shaped raised beds create 320 square feet of growing space for vegetables, herbs and flowers. Because this is a forever home, the garden was built for longevity, using four-inch-thick cedar for the raised beds.
At the heart of the garden, the beds open into a welcoming central gathering space. The places we create to sit, gather and enjoy the garden can be just as important and fulfilling as the spaces we create to grow in.
White limestone chip brightens the pathways and creates a beautiful contrast against the warm cedar, while lighting tucked beneath the raised beds at each garden entrance gives the entire space a soft glow in the evening.
Throughout the garden, custom trellising brings height and structure to the abundance of the growing season. Two farmhouse arches, six obelisks, two panel trellises and custom support stakes give climbing crops room to grow while reinforcing the symmetry of the overall design.
The kitchen garden is only the beginning for this property. Designed as the first piece of a landscape this family can continue growing into, The Half Moon Garden leaves plenty of possibility for whatever comes next.
